Inkling — Bicolor Sapphire Pendant Necklace

Some stones arrive with their own ideas.

The midnight-blue color of this 2.11 ct bicolor sapphire bleeds inward from opposite ends of its oval silhouette, leaving a nearly colorless, transparent center. The effect is reminiscent of ink dispersing through clear water, and that impression became the starting point for the design.

A sculptural platinum setting follows the stone's rounded outline, allowing its unusual color distribution to remain the focus.

That same interplay continues into the bale. Twenty-six individually selected blue sapphires, each 0.9 mm, line either side of a polished platinum center that echoes the nearly colorless portion of the sapphire below. Carefully matched for a cohesive appearance, the tiny accents carry the midnight-blue color into the setting without interrupting its clean lines.

It's a detail best appreciated through a loupe. That's rather the point.

A substantial platinum chain with a platinum lobster clasp completes the piece, adjustable to 15, 16, or 17 inches total length to accommodate different necklines and layering preferences.
